Job Description

The Manager reports to the Team Leader (owner) and is accountable for the effective operation of the business. The Manager’s objective is to develop successful Team Members who will in turn develop a profitable, growing business. The Manager is responsible for providing direction and control for day to day operations as well as Stylist duties.

Stylist Duties:         

  • Executes all aspects of the All Star Hair Cutting System, as well as a variety of styling techniques
  • Follows the 5-Point Play to deliver a Championship Experience to every Client
  • Cuts hair using tools of the trade with responsibility for the safekeeping of tools and equipment
  • Cleans and sterilizes combs, brushes, and other equipment following manufacturer’s requirements; sharpens barber tools; and follows SCI procedures to maintain sanitary conditions in the store
  • Recommends Sport Clips services and products to Clients
  • Provides support to the Sport Clips Management/Coaching Teams
  • Performs consultation in order to decide what services the Client needs
  • Provides services to Clients such as shampooing, cutting and styling, as desired
  • Emphasizes product benefits and assists Clients in the selection of retail products or services for their hair care needs
  • Maintains a consistent relationship with Client base in order to ensure return Client visits
  • Proactively develops new Clients
  • Attends and participates in continuing education and training in order to follow new trends and techniques
  • Attends and participates in community events to foster goodwill and brand awareness

Administrative Duties:

  • Schedules Team Members using the Hourly Load report and the Scheduling Tool at least one per month
  • Completes the Weekly Sales Analysis (“WSA”) and submits to the Team Leader
  • Plans for and conducts performance evaluations, coaching and counseling sessions
  • Controls cash, gift certificates and season tickets
  • Maintains complete and accurate Team Member records
  • Records and submits Team Member payroll
  • Maintains inventory
  • Communicates with the Coach to coordinate training
  • Achieves specified store and individual goals within targeted time frames
  • Develops Assistant Managers using the Management Training Camp Guide
  • Provides positive reinforcement, acknowledgement and recognition of Team Members to promote team spirit, satisfaction and retention
  • Ensures that Pep Rallies are held on a regular basis
  • Manages resources efficiently and effectively including people, time, materials, space and money
  • Performs Coordinator duties at the Reception desk, when necessary
  • Operates the computer and Sport Clips point of sale programs efficiently and productively

Leadership Duties:

  • Builds and maintains a Team atmosphere
  • Recognizes problems and evaluates solutions or alternatives while maintaining professionalism, effectiveness and flexibility at all times
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to meet store and Client needs
  • Understands the effect of decisions on overall objectives and Team motivation
  • Maintains an open channel of communication with Team Leaders, Clients, suppliers and relevant community groups, building positive relationships
  • Provides direction and serves as an example to other Team Members by following the Sport Clips systems and procedures
  • Develops and retains Team Members; meets with Team Members regularly to review individual and Team goals; sets expectations, and provides constructive feedback for growth
  • Analyzes and interprets reports to create action plans for themselves and other Team Members
  • Monitors and coaches to help achieve Team and store business goals
  • Facilitates the process to help Team Members obtain the skills, knowledge and training needed to achieve improved performance

Expectations:

  • Work 35 hours per week taking Clients and a minimum of 5 hours doing administrative work and team development
  • Achieves the required performance levels as set out in the SCI Performance Levels
  • Sets an example for the rest of the Team by having the best individual and Store performance numbers

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the methods and equipment used in cutting and styling hair
  • Knowledge of the sanitary practices and safety precautions necessary to the work
  • Knowledge of the professional products offered at Sport Clips
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing Client and personal services. This includes Client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of Client satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, and grammar

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Skill in the use of barbering or cosmetology tools and equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of hair styles, hair care products and related procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, confirming understanding and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Time Management — Managing one's own time and the time of others
  • Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively

Licenses:

Maintain cosmetology/barber license and state requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Bending, stooping, twisting, leaning forward
  • Hands frequently exposed to water

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Holds valid license issued by the state of residency
  • Preferred training or certification from hair styling or cosmetology school
  • Computer experience helpful

Some managerial experience preferred
